Prof. Santanu Bandyopadhyay is currently Institute Chair Professor, Department of Energy Science and Engineering, at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay). He obtained his B.Tech. (Hons.) in Energy Engineering from IIT Kharagpur in 1992, and M.Tech. and Ph.D. in Energy Systems Engineering from IIT Bombay in 1995 and 1999, respectively. His research interest includes Process Integration, Pinch Analysis, Industrial Energy Conservation, Modelling and Simulation of Energy Systems, Design and optimization of renewable energy systems, etc. Since 1994, Prof. Bandyopadhyay has been associated with and contributed towards various developmental, industrial, and research activities involving different structured approaches to process design, energy integration and conservation as well as renewable energy systems design. Prior to joining IIT Bombay, he worked for M/s Engineers India Limited, New Delhi. He is currently one of the Editor-in-Chiefs for Process Integration and Optimization for Sustainability (Springer Nature) as well as Associate Editor for Clean Technologies and Environmental Policy (Springer Nature), International Journal of Energy Technology and Policy (Inderscience), and INAE Letters (Springer Nature). Presently, he is Fellow of Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE).
Dr. Sameer Maithel
Dr. Sameer Maithel is the Founder Director at Greentech Knowledge Solutions. Dr. Maithel works in the area of sustainable buildings and sustainable energy. His work involves working on environment friendly industrial processes to manufacture building materials; design of buildings that provide better thermal comfort to occupants and requires less energy for air-conditioning; and application of solar energy in buildings to generate thermal or electrical energy. The work spans design, technology development and field testing, development and management of programmes, conducting awareness campaigns and trainings, and contributing in policy development.
Mr. Sougata Nandi
Sougata Nandi’s work for over 18 years in the UAE, has reduced carbon emissions in excess of over 200,000 tons to date. Under his leadership, the Emirates Energy Star program was set up in 2011 and was the fastest growing Energy Management program in the World. Mr. Nandi has implemented around 200 Energy and Water conservation projects across the UAE, including the first retrofit Gray Water Recycling project in Dubai. He is the second LEED AP from the UAE and was the LEED AP on 6 of the first 12 LEED certified projects in the Middle East. Hailing from Indian Institute of Technology (Bachelor and Master in Energy Engineering), Sougata developed and implemented the GCC region’s first Sustainable Development Policy for TECOM Investments, still considered to be a pioneering achievement with several milestone results achieved. In recent times, Mr. Nandi has focused largely on utilizing ICT to deliver a more sustainable environment. He firmly believes that while designing for sustainability is important, what is more crucial is the sustainable operation of developments through their entire life cycle. Mr. Nandi started his career with CII’s Energy Management Cell in Bombay in 1996 and headed CII’s Nepal office from 1997-1999. He is currently the Founder & CEO of 3e Advisory and 3e Apps, in addition to other roles, all promoting sustainable development in various forms.
