Plenary Session - Smart Manufacturing and Industry 4.0

Indian manufacturing sector is keen on adopting Smart Manufacturing and has taken several initiatives. The Government of India is planning to increase the contribution of manufacturing sector to 25% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by 2025, from the current level of 16%. India is also preparing to face global competition by undertaking the Make in India programme for which Smart Manufacturing/Industry 4.0 is one of the most effective enablers.
In the session on Smart Manufacturing/Industry 4.0, a brief presentation will be made to highlight the initiatives being taken by the Government of India and the research activities being carried out at IIT Bombay in collaboration with industry and other IITs. Opportunities for funding research in this area will also be shared.
